About the Artists:
Jackie Richardson:
An esteemed actress and a leading voice in gospel, blues, and jazz, Jackie Richardson’s career has been nothing short of remarkable. With performances spanning concerts, radio, television, and recordings, she has captivated audiences not only in Canada but also across the globe. Her numerous accolades include NAACP, Juno, Betty, Dora, Jesse, Gemini, TBS, and Canadian Equity Association Lifetime Achievement Awards and Nominations. Recognized for her pivotal role in shaping Toronto, Jackie was celebrated by the Toronto Star during the city’s 180th birthday. Notable highlights from her career include participation in various projects such as The Stephen Lewis Foundation’s “South Africa Grandmothers Gathering in Durbin,” “The Nina Simone Project,” and collaborations with renowned musical ensembles like The Orpheus Choir/Hanniford Brass Band and The Art of Time Ensemble.
Joe Sealy:
With a career spanning over five decades, Joe Sealy has distinguished himself as a versatile artist excelling in music, acting, composition, and recording. His tours, including notable stints with Blood, Sweat and Tears, and performances at prestigious venues like the Canadian Embassy in Washington, D.C., showcase his immense talent and versatility. Joe’s contributions to the music industry have earned him significant recognition, including four Juno nominations and a Juno Award for his CD, Africville Suite. He has also been honored with the Dora Mavor Moore Award for music direction and received a Gemini Award nomination for his musical score in the documentary film The Road Taken.
